Frank O'Hara

Morning

I've got to tell you
how I love you always
I think of it on grey
mornings with death

in my mouth the tea
is never hot enough
then and the cigarette
dry the maroon robe

chills me I need you
and look out the window
at the noiseless snow

At night on the dock
the buses glow like
clouds and I am lonely
thinking of flutes

I miss you always
when I go to the beach
the sand is wet with
tears that seem mine

although I never weep
and hold you in my
heart with a very real
humor you'd be proud of

the parking lot is
crowded and I stand
rattling my keys the car
is empty as a bicycle

what are you doing now
where did you eat your
lunch and were there
lots of anchovies it

is difficult to think
of you without me in
the sentence you depress
me when you are alone

Last night the stars
were numerous and today
snow is their calling
card I'll not be cordial

there is nothing that
distracts me music is
only a crossword puzzle
do you know how it is

when you are the only
passenger if there is a
place further from me
I beg you do not go

!

D.H. Lawrence

The little river twittering in the twilight,
The wan, wondering look of the pale sky,
This is almost bliss.
And everything shut up and gone to sleep,
All the troubles and anxieties and pain
Gone under the twilight.
Only the twilight now, and the soft "Sh!" of the river
That will last for ever.
And at last I know my love for you is here;
I can see it all, it is whole like the twilight,
It is large, so large,
I could not see it before,
Because of the little lights and flickers and interruptions,
Troubles, anxieties and pains.
You are the call and I am the answer,
You are the wish, and I the fulfilment,
You are the night, and I the day.
What else - it is perfect enough.
It is perfectly complete,
You and I,
What more--?
Strange, how we suffer in spite of this.

Love Will Tear Us Apart (1980)

When routine bites hard,And ambitions are low,
And resentment rides high,But emotions won't grow,
And we're changing our ways,
Taking different roads.
Then love, love will tear us apart again.
Love, love will tear us apart again.

Why is the bedroom so cold?
You've turned away on your side.
Is my timing that flawed?
Our respect runs so dry.Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives.
But love, love will tear us apart again.
Love, love will tear us apart again.

You cry out in your sleep.
All my failings exposed.
And there's a taste in my mouth,
As desperation takes hold.
Just that something so good
Just can't function no more.

But love, love will tear us apart again.
Love, love will tear us apart again.
Love, love will tear us apart again.
Love, love will tear us apart again.

John Donne

Elegy III - Change

Although thy hand and faith, and good wotks too,
Have sealed thy love which nothing should undo
Yea though thou fall back, that apostasy
Confirm thy love; yet much, much I fear thee.
Women are tlike the Arts, forced unto none,
Open to all searchers, unprized, if unknown.
If I have caught a bird, and let him fly,
Another fouler using these means, as I,
May catch the same bird; and, as these things be,
Women are made for men, not him, not me.
Foxes and goats; all beasts change when they please,
Shall women, more hot, wily, wild than these,
Be bound to one man, and did Nature then
Idly make them apter to endure than men?
They are our clogs, not their own; if a man be
Chained to a galley, yet the galley is free;
Who has a plow-land, casts all his seed corn there,
And yet allows his ground more corn should bear;
Though Danuby into the sea must flow,
The sea receives the Rhene, Volga and Po.
By nature, which gave it, this liberty
Thou lovest, but Oh! Can'st thou love it and me?
Likeness glues love: and if that thou so do,
To make us like and love, must I change too?
More than thy hate, I hate it, rather let me
Allow her chane, than change as often as she,
Ans so not teach, but force my opinion
To love not any one, not every one.
To live in one land is captivity,
To run all countries, a wild roguery;
Waters stink soon, if in one place they bide,
and in the vast sea are worse putrefied:
But when they kiss one bank, and leaving this
never look back, but the next bank do kiss,
then are they purest; Change is the nursery
of Music, joy, life and eternity. 9 jan

The translation....

Raposas e bodes; todas as bestas mudam quando lhes apraz;
e as mulheres, mais quentes, manhosas e selvagens,
deveriam a um só homem sujeitar-se? Tê-las-ia então a Natureza
for acorrentado a uma galé, a galé continua livre;
e admite ainda que o seu solo mais grão devesse gerar;
Embora o Danúbio corra para o mar,
o mar recebe o Reno, o Volga e o Pó.
Correr todos os países, uma desenfreada velhacaria;

NO quarto

AH! Sofia!!!
